Hailing from Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, in the far east of Russia on the Sea of Japan, Ammanas are still a new and fairly unknown band, having formed in 2018.

Far from being newcomers to the scene, however, the band is built around the multi-instrumentalist Ammanas — from which the band takes its name — who has been active in various projects since the early 2000s, including black metal outfit Dor Feafaroth.

With a crushingly heavy and in-your-face sound, this is a carefully constructed and embittered opus. Making use of big riffs and a melancholy, hateful focus, and with no less than two main vocalists and one clean vocalist adding depth to the songs, it's an intense and stirring listen throughout — marrying outright aggression to more introspective and complex songwriting with ease.
